ADD-care® - Glossary
This is a list of definitions of different components that are present in ADD and ADHD natural supplements, as well as in ADD-care®.
- Acetylcholine
- A natural neurotransmitter that helps focus, concentration, and memory.
- Acorus calamus (Sweet Flag)
- Is a plant from the Acoracae family. It allows one the ability to more easily objectify their experiences. Objectification of obsessive tendencies often allows them to be seen in a broader context by the person who holds them. Objectification provides some distance from the compulsive aspect and lessening of the obsessive tendencies.
- Bacopa Monniere
- An herb that improves memory, anxiety, intellect, and speed of information processing.
- Calcium gluconate
- A mineral supplement that is a good calcium source and filler.
- Dopamine
- A natural neurotransmitter that helps with focus, concentration, and memory.
- GABA
- An amino acid precursor to the neurotransmitter GABA ( gamma aminobutyric acid): It promotes a calm relaxed feeling and inhibits tics and constant movement.
- Glycine
- Is the simplest amino acid and acts as an inhibitory neurotransmitter which reduces anxiety and cravings. It quiets the Locus Ceruleus area of the brain, where Norepinephrine is made.
- Homeopathic
- A natural herb, flower, or plant that is mixed with distilled water and shaken numerous times. It is then rinsed out completely and more distilled water is added. This is done many times until the energetic memory of the substance in water is all that is left.
- Leonurus cardiaca (motherwort)
- A flowering plant in the mint family. It is a natural relaxant.
- L-Taurine
- An Acetylcholine booster.
- L-tyrosine
- Amino acid precursor to the neurotransmitter Dopamine which increases attention and focus.
- Magnesium glycinate
- A mineral to help with depression--calcium/magnesium ratio- Both Magnesium and glycine (see above) have an inhibitory effect on the Locus Ceruleus, inhibiting Norepinephrine release. Norepinephrine creates the tension in someone with obsessive tendencies, ritualized behavior or acting on those obsessions releases the tension by allowing a Dopamine surge. Inhibiting Norepinephrine release bypasses the tension, and the subsequent need to act on the obsession.
- Methylcellulose
- A chemical compound derived from cellulose which is a type of cellulose-plant fiber, one that balls up in the stomach and provides a sustained release effect while the digestive tract works to break it down.
- Norepenephrine
- A stimulating natural neurotransmitter.
- Phosphatidylserine
- An Acetylcholine booster.
- Rosemary
- A profoundly acting anti-oxidant in the nervous system. It minimizes the damage related to oxidizing neurotransmitters like Dopamine, and allows for a quicker nerve transmission, better recall and a clearer mind.
- Serotonin
- A natural neurotransmitter that helps the brain feel pleasure, fights depression, and promotes healthy sleep.
- St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum)
- An herb that has been shown to lessen depression.
